Tazorac
Will Tazorac work for your acne problem? I’ll give a summary of what we know about this stuff.
Tazorac is a prescription topical ointment with the active ingredient, tazarotene. It is commonly sold in two concentrations: 0.05% and 0.1%. This stuff basically works by keeping the pores in the skin clear of oil and debris with its active chemicals. In many cases Tazorac is known to help improve the appearance of the skin long-term, though it is known for its nasty initial side-effects.
Common side effects include worsening of acne, dry skin, itchiness, redness and in some cases extreme drying and cracking of skin. These side effects often last for the first 4-6 weeks of use. This happens as the chemical shuts down many of the natural functions of skin glands, which lubricate and protect the skin.
I do not recommend Tazorac because of its often painful and long-lasting side effects. As well, you have to go through the hassle of getting a prescription to even get the stuff. Last but not least, Tazorac is extremely expensive, starting out at over $100 for only the minimum concentration, 30 gm cream.
