Clean and Clear Advantage

Clean and Clear Advantage

The Clean and Clear Advantage acne treatment products are an affordable option for treating acne. How well do they work? What are the side effects? That’s what I’m here for! Here’s a quick look at what Clean and Clear offers you.

  • Each of these products seems to rely on varying concentrations of salicylic acid as an active ingredient. This is an effective ingredient though often known for over-drying, especially in concentrations over .5%.
  • The other ingredients included in the products all check out as effective cleansers however they often cause excess dryness, such as with the use of alcohol.
  • The prices on these products are about right, ranging from $7 to $35 depending on the product or package, but you are not necessarily getting anything revolutionary.

Conclusion

The Clean and Clear Advantage products are certainly as good as your average acne treatment system and are reasonably priced. I am generally impressed with the value, though I am not impressed with the use of higher concentrations of salicylic acid, which can be very harsh on the skin. If you are going to go that route, I would recommend a product with White Willow Bark, which is a natural source of the acid and is less harsh on the skin. I do not recommend Clean and Clear Advantage.

Acuzine

Acuzine

Acuzine is the former name of a product now called acnezine.  Acnezine, Acuzine, Acnebomb, whatever you call it, does it actually work is the question!  Here’s a quick look at what this product is all about.

Acuzine (acnezine) is an acne treatment that comes in pill-form.  It claims to fight acne with a special combination of anti-oxidants such as Vitamin C and E.  These help to boost your immune system and promote a health hormone balance, which can often help acne conditions.

Though there is little doubt that antioxidants are helpful in this process, Acuzine itself has little evidence of being consistently effective as an acne treatment.  Some people see results while some see none at all (This is similar to a placebo).

Despite the fact that Acuzine claims no side-effects, it has been reported that many users experience mild head-aches or drowsiness.

As for the price, you will pay about $35 for a bottle of 30 pills.  This is not overly-expensive, but if you figure that it may not even work, then you may be losing all $35.  Though Acuzine is sometimes offered as a “free trial”, some people report difficulties in getting the refund (promised at the sales page).

Conclusion

I do not recommend Acuzine (Acnezine). The evidence is just not strong enough that it is really effective as an acne treatment and you risk not getting a refund if it doesn’t work.

Actimine

Actimine

Actimine is an herbal formula designed to treat acne through its special combination of ingredients.

So does Actimine really work?

I took some time to investigate Actimine and have come up with a few observations on its ingredients.

  • Boasts Selenium as an active ingredient, which is an essential nutrient but only at extremely low levels.  High levels of selenium are toxic.
  • Claims methylsulfonyl methane and gum guggul have significant positive health effects as “20 patients exhibited better improvements in skin health” in one study.

The truth is each of these chemicals has very little effect on your health according to most studies done.  As stated on Drugs.com, methylsulfonyl methane “may be of some use for skin problems”, though it has no specific relationship to the treatment of acne.  I can confidently say that I do not recommend Actimine.  Though $30 seems like a reasonable price, I can find little foundation for their claims that it works other than a few testimonials.

Zits

Zits

Zits, pimples, blackheads, or whiteheads – Whatever you call them, they mean acne and acne can be a real pain.

Zits are what we normally call the red bumps that form on the skin as a result of pores clogged with dead skin cells and oil. Though oil production is natural to keep the skin moisturized, the skin secretes something called sebum, which can cause pores to get clogged with dead skin cells that shed off naturally. This builds up and irritates the skin causing redness and that familiar ugly lump we know as a zit.

So what can you do about it?

Check out these top recommended acne treatments and get rid of those zits!

Acne Medicine

Acne Medicine

If you’ve got bad acne, the search for the right acne medicine can be more like the quest for the holy grail.

There are a number of products on the market, but the information on each of them can be a little cloudy.  Many of the prescription acne medications can be pretty potent, though it is always important to follow closely the recommendations of a dermatologist when using them.

There also many safe and natural alternatives which can be equally effective as prescription.  The important thing is to avoid harsh chemicals (benzoyl peroxide and high concentrations of salicylic acid) which can often worsen the condition of your skin, over-drying it and causing redness.  The sooner you treat your acne the better as you can avoid the more severe forms of acne and the risk of scarring, so hopefully the reviews available will be helpful to you in your quest.

Pimples

Pimples

PIMPLES!!!

All of us get pimples, some of us more often than others.

What causes these stupid things anyway? Inside our pores are sebaceous glands which produce this stuff called sebum. When the outer skin layers shed, the dead cells left behind sometimes become stuck together by the sebum. This blocks the pore which can create an environment where bacteria can grow. As the bacteria grow, the body reacts by sending white blood cells to fight. When it’s all said and done you have a nasty looking bump on your face.

So how do you get rid of them? Check out these top-recommended treatments for acne pimples…

On the Spot Acne Treatment

On-the-Spot Acne Treatment

Is Neutrogena’s On-the-Spot Acne Treatment the caliber of product you expect?

For $7 a pop, this is a very reasonably priced product. Why so cheap is the question? Taking a closer look, it appears that this is basically a 2.5% benzoyl peroxide solution. I almost never recommend benzoyl peroxide even in its lower concentrations for its tendency to over-dry the skin, cause redness and other forms of discoloration.

Though with Neutrogena, you have the name-recognition and traditional reliability, this is a pretty basic product which may work in some cases, but I would not recommend it for your skin’s sake, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Adult Acne

Adult Acne

Acne just happens to teenagers right? WRONG! For many of us, adult acne is all too real. Adult acne can come in two forms: Rosacea (reddening of the face) or acne vulgaris, the same form which teenagers often experience. These conditions can effect up to 25% of men and 50% of women at some point in their adult lives.

Many of the treatments are similar for both cases and the options are countless. So which one will be best for you? It is always advisable to avoid harsh chemicals such as benzoyl peroxide for their effect of over-drying and causing more redness, but not all natural ingredients are created equal. Take a look around to find the product that will minimize side-effects while still providing results.

Acne Face Wash

Acne Face Wash

What do we do to prevent acne or when we actually have a breakout? We wash our face!

One of the most basic ways of treating acne is to clean the affected area, but some ways are better than others and some products can actually aggravate acne breakouts. There are many acne face wash products out there, but it is important to know which ingredients can actually clog your pores. Some face wash products include waxes and silicones which can end up worsening your acne while “moisturizing” the skin on your face. The most effective products often include natural ingredients which clear oil away and fight bacteria at the same time.

Acne Cures

Acne Cures

Is there a cure for acne?

Sadly the answer is no. Though some treatments claim to be “acne cures”, there is no known definitive cure for acne. However, don’t lose hope! There are some effective treatments out there!

As it turns out, even doctors and scientists get acne, which means good news for the rest of us with chronic breakouts. For years, professionals have researched effective methods of treatment, finding powerful herbs and ingredients such as white willow bark, tea tree oil, and other facial cleansers and oil reducers which help to control visible acne. There are also herbal supplements which aim to help control the hormones involved with oil production in the skin.

Thank goodness for science!
